About
Alexander Mishnev is a research associate at the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe at the University of St. Gallen. He completed his first degree in International Relations at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU). Then followed the interdisciplinary master's program “Eastern Europe: History – Media” at the University of Konstanz. He is doing now his Ph.D. at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of St. Gallen and his research is related to the current cultural and foreign policy of Russia.

Current research
In his current research under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schmid, Alexander Mishnev addresses questions of contemporary Russian foreign policy, in particular, questions of soft-power and cultural policies of the Russian Federation. His thesis deals with the instrumentalization and politicization of Russian cultural policy. The focus of his work is on the foundation "Russkij Mir" its goals and its extensive network.

Research interests
In addition to research on Russia's contemporary foreign and cultural policy, Alexander Mishnev is interested in Eastern European, above all, in contemporary Russian literature and the media landscape in Russia.
