Dr Juergen Warmbrunn

Jürgen Warmbrunn studied East European history, Slavonic, English and Finnish philology at Münster, Prague and Helsinki University. After completing his Ph.D. in Czech linguistics he attended a two year post-graduate course in librarianship at Konstanz University Library and the Cologne University of Applied Technology. From 1995 to 1999 he was Head of Acquisitions and subject specialist at Frankfurt (Oder) University Library on the German-Polish border. In 1999 he became Head of the Herder Institute Library in Marburg, where he has also held the position of Deputy Director of the institute since 2005. He is particularly interested in the history of libraries in East Central Europe after World War II and the relationship between "Weltanschauung" and librarianship in the context of totalitarian regimes.
