Mr Edgars Raginskis

Edgars Raginskis (1984) is a Latvian composer of a post-soviet, alternate Millenial generation with a keen interest in post-minimalism, neo-romanticism and sonorous, mood-evoking and enriching properties of music. He holds a BA in composition from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Music Academy (class of Prof. Pēteris Plakidis) and MA from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (class of Prof. Toivo Tulev). Having written compositions for symphonic orchestra and mixed choir alike, Raginskis feels himself most at home by the black-and-white keyboard (be it a concert piano or a digital instrument with a variety of synthetic timbres), where he drafts his explorations into the world of interdisciplinary chamber music. With a strong desire in crossing stylistic and genric boundaries, in recent years Raginskis has gravitated towards creating theatrical and cinematic soundtracks, as well as writing concert music and quasi-pop songs for chamber ensembles. Having worked as a radio and TV host for over ten years, Edgars Raginskis currently resides in Hong Kong, where he is pursuing doctoral studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University, the main research topic of his being the music censorship in Composers' Union of the former Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (Principal supervisor: Prof. John Winzenburg).
