Deborah Tihanyi

Deborah is just finishing a one-year sabbatical and is excited to be attending her first SALTISE conference. She is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Engineering Communication Program (ECP) and Institute for Studies in Transdisciplinary Engineering Education and Practice (ISTEP) at the University of Toronto. She spent six years as Director of ECP (2014-2020) and two years as Associate Director of ISTEP (2018-2020). Her teaching includes integration of communication and other professional competencies in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, a graduate course on teaching engineering in higher education, and an elective course for undergraduate students called Representing Science on Stage. Her research interests include identity development and training of faculty/graduate students; she is currently working on developing a podcast series on engineering education.
