Richard Bourhis obtained a B.Sc. in Psychology at McGill University and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology at the University of Bristol, England. He taught in Psychology at McMaster University in Ontario and at UQAM where he is Emeritus Professor. He published extensively in English and French on discrimination and intergroup relations, language policies, cross-cultural communication, immigration and acculturation. He received a doctorate 'Honoris Causa' at Université de Lorraine, France, was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and was awarded the Gold Medal Award of the Canadian Psychological Society.
