Dr William Tullett

He/Him

Associate Professor in Sensory History
Anglia Ruskin University

I am a sensory historian of smell, bodies, gender, and the environment. My books include Smell in Eighteenth-Century England: A Social Sense (Oxford University Press, 2019, paperback 2021) and my most recent book Smell and Past: Noses, Archives, Narratives (Bloomsbury, 2023) which is fully open access and can be downloaded at this link. I am currently helping to lead the Odeuropa project, an EU Horizon 2020 funded project tracing the smell history and heritage of Europe from the 1600s to the 1920s using history, art history, and museum studies alongside the computer and heritage sciences. You can find out more about Odeuropa here. I am interested in interdisciplinary smell studies and at this moment I am specifically interested in histories of sensory education and environmental and multi-species histories of smell.
