Ben Lee is Postdoctoral Diversity and Innovation Scholar in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of New Hampshire. He holds a PhD in Occupational Science from UNC-Chapel Hill, with a background in medical anthropology (Australian National University (BA(Hons 1)) & Macquarie University (MRes). His dissertation involved developing a new instrument/scale to better understand everyday sensory experiences among persons with serious mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) through a series of working groups involving mental health professionals with lived experience of serious mental illness, as well as people living with schizophrenia. Ben aims to establish a research agenda that values and honors the lived experience of people living with serious mental illness and the socio-cultural aspects of the senses and sensory experience, which often get overlooked in biomedical approaches.
