Caro Verbeek

Kunstmuseum Den Haag
Caro Verbeek (1980) is an (art) historian of the senses engaging in innovative sensory education projects both within academia and museums. Her aim is to (re-)construct and re- narrate history through a sensory perspective and to train the senses. Verbeek founded the cultural program ‘Odorama’ and the courses ‘Knowing by Sensing’ and ‘the Other Senses’. She recently successfully defended her PhD ‘In Search of Lost Scents’ on olfactory museology and the role of scent in avant-garde art (‘Smelling Time – the Olfactory Dimension of Futurism’). Because of her hands-on nose-on approach she is sometimes described as an artistic scholar or academic performer.
