This presentation considers the idea that supporting the civic engagement of English-speaking BIPOC youth’s civic engagement is integral to English-speaking communities’ vitality in Quebec. Civic engagement fosters vitality by amplifying communities' ability to voice and act upon their concerns. English-speaking communities in Quebec are in a minority position, which can pose challenges to their civic engagement. English-speaking BIPOC youth are minorities within this communities, which presents further intersecting challenges regarding civic engagement. Knowing what motivates these youth and the barriers they face is important for developing initiatives that effectively foster their civic engagement.
The panelists will discuss their experience working collaboratively with community organizations to support English-speaking the civic engagement of BIPOC youth through interactive learning about municipal government.
Panelists will reflect on their experience co-creating and co-presenting a workshop and share participant feedback. The panel will explore connections between legal education, community engagement, and community vitality.
