Marie-Pierre Cossette
Director of Major Societal Challenges within the Office of the Chief Scientist of Quebec since 2022, Marie-Pierre has held several positions over the past 10 years within the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ). For more than five years, she has been involved in work related to the implementation of research initiatives and programs addressing major societal challenges. She also served as a student member of the FRQ – Health Board of Directors, president of the FRQ Intersectoral Student Committee, and scientific advisor in scientific entrepreneurship.
Marie-Pierre holds a PhD for her work in neuroscience from Concordia University. She received training in behavioral neurobiology, using research approaches that include nonlinear mathematical models, advanced statistics, and programming.
Supported by federal granting agencies and the FRQ throughout her academic career, Marie-Pierre is honored to continue her career in research administration, giving back to the research community and working alongside it—through science and the development of collaborative projects—to tackle major and constantly evolving societal challenges.

This panel seeks to highlight the breadth of alternative careers, such as science communication, research administration, nonprofit work and more. Postdocs will hear about how to evaluate which paths align with their strengths, what hiring processes look like, and how to present their academic expertise to employers in new sectors.
