Soliman Abusamra
Dr. Abusamra received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Concordia University with an emphasis on asset and construction management. He was a member of the Center for Innovation in Construction and Infrastructure Engineering and Management (CICIEM) [Previously called Construction Automation Lab]. Throughout his academic career, he published numerous books, journals, and conference articles about establishing proper management systems for multiple infrastructure assets and construction operations. Moreover, he was invited to speak at several public events and TED talk, participated in a multitude of academic conferences, and is serving on numerous editorial advisory boards for reputable civil engineering and construction management journals and book publishers.
He worked as a Manager in KPMG's Global Infrastructure Advisory Team and a Contract Manager for the Corridor Fleet Replacement program at VIA Rail Canada. He is currently Senior Project Manager for the Maintenance Facilities Upgrades at VIA Rail. He is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the assets' condition by building more resilient infrastructure through the application of smart monitoring tools, artificial intelligence, and decision-making systems to generate optimized plans.
Prior to conducting his Ph.D. at Concordia University, he worked as a Project Controls Engineer at Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), one of the top 25 international contractors worldwide.; where he worked on the Riyadh Metro Project, a design-build rapid transit system in the city of Riyadh (6 metro lines, 176 KM, 85 stations, $22.5 billion). The job involved construction supervision, progress monitoring, quantity surveying, BIM modeling, planning, and management. He also worked as a Cost Consultant at LCO Construction Consultant on several projects, most notably the REM project in Montreal and he also worked as a Cost Engineer at Gleeds Cost Consultancy, an international Real Estate, and Construction consultancy. The jobs involved QS, cost estimation, and claim analysis.
His interests are in Asset Management, Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, Project Management, Contract Management, Highways, Condition Assessment, and Sustainability.
He holds a PMP, ENV SP, OSHA certified, QMP (ISO 9001), Lead Auditor (ISO 19011:2018), First Aid Certified, LCA Certified, and Asset Management professional with extensive knowledge of ISO 55000 series (55000, 55001, 55002).
