Mikak Kristen Semigak-Justason

Participates in 1 Session

Mikak is a multimedia textiles artist based in Fredericton, NB. Mikak’s roots are in Nain, Nunatsiavut (Labrador). Specializing in crochet and printmaking, they skillfully bridge these mediums to convey political, environmental, and cultural themes through clear, accessible motifs. Their artistic journey started in 2019 and further developed when Mikak began their professional art career in 2021 at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. During this time, Mikak discovered their passion for printmaking as a self taught linocut artist, heavily inspired by other Inuit artists as well as their uncle Levi Semigak’s stone carvings.

Mikak creates layered narratives that speak to Indigenous resistance, endurance, and renewal. Each piece is a reflection of their connection to their cultural identity, combining traditional elements with contemporary practices to foster meaningful conversations about self determination and survival.
