Taalrumiq is an Inuvialuk and Gwich’in fashion designer, artist, speaker and digital content creator from Tuktuuyaqtuuq, Inuvialuit Settlement Region, from the Cockney/Gruben family of Tuktuuyaqtuuq and the Albert/Louie family of Aklaarvik and Inuuvik. Born in a segregated Indian hospital, she grew up on the shores of the Arctic Ocean with her Inuvialuit family and community and was named after her great-naanak by local elders. Drawing upon her background in human ecology, art, education and lived experience she shares her culture with the world through art, fashion, advocacy, indigenizing popular trends and original digital content. Taalrumiq is currently a graduate student at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, in the MFA low residency program, where she is researching and creating a body of work based on Inuvialuit fashion. She resides on the traditional, unceded Ts’msyen territory in Terrace, BC with her husband, their 5 children and dog Munaqsi.
