Saelym Degrandpre
Saelym Degrandpre is an Urban Inuk artist based in Ottawa, blending traditional Inuit artistry with modern design through digital and tactile mediums. Originally sharing illustrations on social media, Saelym’s creative journey has led them to the Toronto Film School, where they are deepening their skills in graphic design and interactive media. Having collaborated with companies and galleries like the National Gallery of Canada, the Canada History Society, Nunavut TLS, and Inuit art foundation.
Their work explores her Inuk identity, featuring unique forms such as sewing, antlerwork, and seal skin designs, alongside digital graphics and Illustrations. Exploring myths and legends, like Sedna has ignited a fascination that guided saelym towards a path in the arts.
Her work revolves around the themes of femininity, womanhood, and the rich storytelling traditions. “ As my artistic style and body of work continue to evolve, I find inspiration in the oral history and storytelling traditions, as well as in our Tunniit (traditional Tattoos).
