Siku Rojas
Yurak is a non-binary multidisciplinary artist based out of Iqaluit, Nunavut. Their anaana’s family is from Iglulik, Nunavut and their ataata’s family is Kichwan from Peguche, Ecuador. They have been a full time artist since March 2023. Currently they are taking the Aurniarvik Inuktitut second language program at Pirurvik.
There is no medium safe from their exploration! Yurak’s art ranges from hand pressed prints, digital illustrations to stained glass wall hangings and Inuit tattooing. They love throwing bright colours in their beadwork and depicting creatures of their imagination in their prints. Showing their interest in the eerie with a touch of sparkle all over it.
Yurak also has a huge love for fashion and makeup. So naturally they sell clothing with their designs and model for other Inuit designers, such as April Allen. With their love for makeup and fantasy they have worked on a handful of film sets as a makeup artist.
All of Yurak’s art grows from a love for life. They create pieces of work as tools to elevate Inuit pride and self love while showcasing Inuit brilliance. Their art is a celebration of everyday life and a reminder to live lovingly.
