Participates in 1 Session

Gayle Uyagaqi Kabloona is a multidisciplinary artist and writer residing in Ottawa, ON, who creates ceramics, prints, graphic art, wall-hangings and more. Kabloona’s work is inspired by the art of her grandmother, Victoria Mamnguqsualuk, and the colours and bold shapes of her great-grandmother, Jessie Oonark, and often incorporates traditional Inuit stories told through a modern, feminist lens.

Gayle enjoys carrying imagery between mediums, while paying respect to traditional methods and expertise. Her artwork allows an intimate view into contemporary Inuit life. In a few short years, she has produced artworks for clients such as Google Pixel, Canada Goose, the National Arts Centre, the British High Commission, the first annual Truth and Reconciliation stamp by Canada Post and the Google Doodle “Celebrating Mitiarjuk Nappaaluk” for National Indigenous People’s Day 2023.

She has been Artist in Residence at the Art Gallery of Guelph (2022) The British Royal Navy’s Icebreaker Protector (2022) the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (2024) and Triangle-Astérides in Marseille, France (2024). Her work has been acquired by the Musée des beaux-arts à Montréal, Global Affairs Canada, Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, and the Scott Polar Research Institute (UK).
