April Allen, an Inuk artist and designer from Rigolet, Nunatsiavut, is the creative force behind "Stitched by April." With a deep respect for her Inuit heritage, she skillfully blends traditional materials and history into her designs, finding fulfillment in every stitch and bead.
Inspired by her mother's sewing, April developed a love for her culture's crafts, which is reflected in her beading and sewing. Her work has been showcased at prestigious events, including the Indigenous Fashion Arts Festival, Inuit Studies Conference, Arctic Arts Summit, Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week. She recently returned from Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks.
April’s Inuit Dolls are part of the Provincial Art Bank at The Rooms in St. John’s, NL. She received the Milestone Award at the Excellence in Visual Arts Awards. Committed to innovation, she shares her craft with Indigenous youth across Northern Canada, teaching virtually and inspiring healing through artistic expression.
