REGISTRATION
ATTENDEES: How much does it cost to attend the Symposium?
The table below shows prices to attend the 2024 Symposium. The cost per person for this symposium outside of travel, per diems and flights is about 750$/ per person (symposium meals, speakers, events, AV, spaces etc). Inuit Futures is offsetting the cost of the symposium for all attendees, and Avataq, the Inuit Art Foundation, The Government of Nunavut, the Nunatsiavut Government, the Canada Council for the Arts, CALQ, the Terra Foundation, NAPA, and other arts organizations are all contributing to defray the costs for all participants by sharing symposium registration costs and supporting participant travel.
Inuit who are coming on behalf of an organization or government must be paid for by that org; but no Inuk will personally have to pay to attend this event. Space is extremely limited and everyone is encouraged to register early to ensure a spot!

SYMPOSIUM
Will there be Inuktut translation?
No, we regret that Inuktut translation is not available; Inuit are attending from all over Inuit Nunaat and it is not possible to provide translation in so many dialects and in multiple rooms of the symposium. If you or someone you know need translation and you would like to travel with a whisper translator, we would be happy to provide them with free registration. Please email us at inuitfutures@gmail.com
Is the Symposium “hybrid”? Will the event be recorded?
The symposium is currently not hybrid but it will be video recorded. Sessions may be made publicly available after the symposium with the consent of the panelists.
I am presenting: do I need to bring my laptop?
Given the discussion-based nature of all panels, a personal device will not be necessary. Please send or upload a series of up to 3 images related to your presentation by email by Sunday, November 3rd. Information will be provided to all speakers by email.
ACCOMMODATION
How/where can I book a room?
We have a special rate at the Centre Sheraton which is a 5 minute taxi or 12 minute walk to the conference centre at Concordia University. Please book early, there are limited rooms! https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1714504092243&key=GRP&app=resvlink
How to get downtown from the Montreal Airport (YUL)?
YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport is located just 20 minutes from downtown. Upon arrival, you’ll find everything you need, including tourist information and various options for making your way downtown: car rentals, Uber, taxis, airport shuttles, and the bus. The 747 Express bus operates 24/7/365 and will get you to one of the nine downtown stops in 40 to 60 minutes (depending on traffic). If you are staying at the Le Centre Sheraton Montreal Hotel, the nearest 747 Express bus stop is at René-Lévesque / Stanley (1 minute walk to the hotel.)
Montreal Public Transit
The Montreal metro (subway) system is incredibly efficient and user-friendly, with just four lines connecting the downtown centre to major tourist sites, bus stops and train stations. The metro operates daily from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. (1:30 a.m. on Saturdays). The average wait time between trains is eight minutes and three minutes during rush hour.
ABOUT CONCORDIA
How do I get there? Maps and directions.
Please note all events are at the Sir George Williams Campus (SGW) in downtown Montreal.
Where can I park?
Please allow sufficient time to navigate campus. The campus is well-served by numerous bus routes, bike parking, and well-maintained paths and sidewalks. There is a complete list of parking options here.
Will there be Childcare services?
While Concordia University does not provide childcare services, small children and babies are welcome at the symposium. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Please let us know by email if you are bringing a child with you for all or part of the weekend, so we can make space for them and make sure they feel welcome. Email us with their names and ages at inuitfutures@gmail.com please. While we cannot at this time endorse specific childcare services, we also recommend that attendees visit CanadianNanny which offers a database of childcare specialists and nannies for hire in the area.
Will there be Covid precautions? Should I mask?
We encourage you to take precautions to protect yourselves and others, especially during this cold and flu season as the weather changes. Masking on flights and during the symposium is highly recommended. Please bring your own masks; a limited number of masks and Covid testing kits will be available on-site. Should you suspect you are sick, please stay home or in your hotel and contact us at Inuitfutures@gmail.com. We also highly recommend that you get your Covid Booster and Flu Shot before the symposium begins!
