Dr-Ing Jan P. Beuscher
Dr.-Ing. Jan P. Beuscher is chief scientist for Process Chains for Sustainable Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Systems of the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films and coordinator for Fuel Cell Production Technologies of IWF, Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology, Technische Universität Braunschweig since January 2021. Dr.-Ing. Jan P. Beuscher has studied mechanical engineering/material science at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technische Universität München. He started his PhD in 2015 at the Technische Universität Braunschweig in the context of lightweight production engineering. During his time at IWF, he took over the team leadership for Tool Technologies and Mould Making in 2017 and became department head on Hybrid Lightweight Structures and Integrated Manufacturing in 2018. As part of these activities, he played a key role in the establishment of the Open Hybrid LabFactory research campus in Wolfsburg. In 2021, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Mould-integrated heating technology for processing fiber-reinforced thermoplastics” at TU Braunschweig (summa cum laude).

Hydrogen offers a wide range of possible applications and is regarded as the energy carrier of the future. In terms of decarbonisation, hydrogen will make a decisive contribution to replacing fossil fuels. The crucial question at this point will be how hydrogen production and use can be scaled up in the future to meet demand. Technologically functioning systems are available today and the ramp-up of production technology is currently taking place. But in order to increase efficiency in all...
