Jean-Christophe Daigle

Participates in 1 Session

Jean-Christophe Daigle earned a PhD in polymer chemistry in 2013 from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) under Professor Jérôme P. Claverie. His doctoral research focused on developing new functional polyethylene-based polymers. That same year, he completed a research internship at the University of New South Wales (Australia), where he worked on high-pressure carbon dioxide–assisted ethylene emulsion polymerization under the supervision of Professor Per Zetterlund.

In 2014, he joined Hydro-Québec’s Research Institute (IREQ) as a postdoctoral researcher under Karim Zaghib, developing new polymer materials for batteries. He then became a Project Manager at Esstalion Technologies, a joint venture between Sony Corporation (Murata) and Hydro-Québec, where he led the development of organic materials for olivine-based battery cathodes (LFP and LMFP) for energy storage (2014–2018).

Jean-Christophe Daigle currently leads the Polymers and Organic Synthesis research group at Hydro-Québec. He is also the principal investigator of the Valéco project, focused on valorizing Hydro-Québec patents and supporting the battery ecosystem in Quebec and internationally. His research centers on designing novel organic materials for batteries, including functional polymers, organic ionic plastic crystals, and organic additives. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 scientific publications and patents.

Industry careers offer impactful, innovative opportunities for postdocs but the transition can feel unfamiliar. This panel will focus on understanding the industry landscape, the skills employers value, and the pathways that commonly lead researchers into industry roles. Subjects discussed will focus on how to translate academic research into business-relevant language, crafting an industry-ready resume, how to engage in effective networking and interview prep.
