Come experiment with reduction printmaking! Have you ever wondered how the famous Japanese print of the giant wave was made? It’s not complicated. This is a technique that I have been teaching at all levels for years and every time, students have loved it. It’s a project that naturally caters to the importance of the process, as well as student-artists’ self-monitoring, iterative practices and communal support. Since we will be using maps as our reduction printmaking inspiration, discussions of land, territorial acknowledgement, oral histories and place can easily ensue from this practice. Participants will also be provided with additional thematic ideas as to how to incorporate the technique into their lessons.
