March 23, 2020, 7:00 AM - March 23, 2020, 7:00 PM
Montreal, Quebec , Canada
This conference will address challenges and solutions for building sustainable minority communities with special reference to the experience of the English speaking Black population of Quebec as a subset of the Black Canadian experience. Mercantilist capitalism, the transatlantic slave trade and the histories of the New World colonies of habitation and conquest serve as an introduction or contextualization of this multidisciplinary conference. Featuring keynote panels, town hall discussions, workshops and presentations of research findings, the event will bring together representatives from the government, education and community sectors. The networking opportunities and presentation of research facilitated by this event will enable the sharing of experience and tested strategies, and will support evidence-based action and enduring educational networks that positively impact the socio-economic growth of our communities. Outcomes will include engaged research facilitating evidence-based action, enduring institutional networks that support communities, and evolution in attitudes and building of social bridges, resulting in increased social cohesion.
