Dr. Khalid Fatih joined the National Research Council Canada (NRC) in 2002. He is currently a senior research officer and a team leader. From 2009 to 2015 he was appointed as an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Fatih received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Université de Sherbrooke (Sherbrooke, Quebec) in 2001 in the area of electrocatalysis specifically applied to alkaline water electrolysis. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at Acadia University (Wolfville, Nova Scotia, 2001-2002) working in the area of bio-electrochemistry.

Dr. Fatih's expertise is in electrocatalysis, surface electrochemistry, and electrode kinetics applied to fuel cells, redox fuel cell, bio-fuel cell, redox flow batteries, lithium-ion batteries and electrolysis. One of his primary current interests include materials development and various fundamental and applied aspects of water electrolysis for cost effective and sustainable hydrogen production. He is leading projects to develop critical materials and components for PEM water electrolysis as well as understanding performance degradation and failure modes. Over last decade, Dr. Fatih has been supporting Canadian and international regulators such as Standards Council Canada/CSA/IEC, Transport Canada, SAE G-27 and UN-Informal Working Groups (EVS-GTR and LiB TDG reclassification) for the development and adoption of batteries related codes, standards and regulations. Since 2014, Dr. Fatih is the chair of the Canadian national battery committee to IEC TSC-21A. To his credit, Dr. Fatih published over 120 publications including refereed journal articles, technical reports, proceedings, book chapters, patent applications and invited talks/conference presentations.
