How do you experience light and sound in accordance to smell? If you think this question is asked backwards, with smell having to follow your sense of sound and light, you are in for a treat. Born out of a collaboration with the ITHQ (Institut de tourisme et d'hôtellerie du Québec) and ExperiSens, Modal Olfactory Atmosphere finds its second iteration as an interactive and collaborative workshop. While participants in the first iteration of the project entered a room with a scent and modulate light and sound on their own, this workshop will rely on a sensing together to collaborate and find a common language and experiential expression of the scent. MOA ask the participants to be part of a “performative sensory environment” and partake in the exploration of how we match the experience of designed smells such as perfumes with our understanding of light (hue/ intensity) and various sound elements (bpm, reverb, noise etc.).
Keywords: olfaction, atmospheres, modal anthropology, interactive sound installation
