Me, Myself, and AI in the Classroom

Estefania Moreno, Central Quebec School Board

Artificial intelligence has revolutionized the world of education. Teachers are no longer expected to be subject area experts because information is now accessible at lightning speed. If students can acquire the information they need to gain subject specific knowledge, then the teaching profession must also adapt to the generational needs in education. If teachers are no longer the only knowledge experts in their field, then we must become facilitators. According to the Digital Competency Development Continuum, educators must be able to create educational experiences in the classroom to trigger critical thinking and problem-solving skills all the while empowering students through the adequate use of artificial intelligence and technology development in the classroom. The most difficult part is to create digitally literate teachers and equip them with field experience to help them gain confidence in the use of AI in the classrooms. As a passionate educator and a strong desire to stay relevant, I have implemented various activities and evaluation situations in my classroom in order to expose students to artificial intelligence, empower them through the use of ai in the classroom, encourage self-accountability through the exploration of AI and AI detectors, and ultimately equip students to discern between the access of unlimited information and acquiring the competencies needed to satisfy the expectations set out for them.

AI Literacy for Educators

Chris Colley, LEARN

In today’s digital age, AI is rapidly transforming education. This workshop invites educators to reflect on the benefits and limitations of AI in the classroom, with a focus on AI literacy, ethical considerations, and pedagogical practices. Participants will engage with guiding questions to critically explore AI’s role in teaching and learning. LEARN has developed practical resources to support educators in fostering student success in an AI-enhanced environment.
