Workshop: Empowering approaches to evaluate AI in migration policy

My Session Status

When:
2:00 PM, Thursday 21 May 2026 (1 hour 15 minutes)

Fenwick Mckelvey (Concordia University) and Alessandra Renzi (Concordia)
This interactive workshop brings together the People’s Consultation on AI initiative and the conference's focus on ADT in migration. The session opens with a presentation of the Consultations process and its results, offering attendees an overview of how public deliberation on AI has been organized and what key concerns and perspectives have emerged.

The heart of the workshop is a hands-on deliberative exercise: drawing on the participatory tools developed for the Consultations, attendees will work in small groups to collectively examine and discuss AI use across different stages of the immigration system. The exercise invites participants to apply structured rubrics and critical lenses to real cases — moving beyond abstract debate toward the kind of grounded, collaborative reasoning that public consultations are designed to produce.

The session closes with a plenary exchange, surfacing points of convergence and tension across groups.
