Jordana Salma is a Registered Nurse, Associate Professor at Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta, and Global Nursing Leadership Institute 2024 Scholar. Her program of research, Implementing Research for Equity in Aging (IREA), focuses on improving health outcomes in migrant older adult populations. She is a qualitative,  community-engaged, and participatory research methodologist. She has been an investigator on 30 national- and internationally-funded research projects related to migration. Across some of these projects she has explored the ways older migrants use information and communication technologies to maintain social connectedness and access information.

This panel asks what digital tools actually do – and don’t do - for migrants navigating settlement, health, and civic life. From telecare and health platforms to chatbots aimed at supporting political integration, panelists look at how these technologies play out in practice  for diverse migrant populations, including older adults and racialized communities.
