I am an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at the University of British Columbia and an international digital media scholar and practitioner whose work explores how extended realities and intelligence technologies can be leveraged for well-being and social good. I earned my PhD in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from the University of Washington and have lived in Singapore, the UK, Sweden, and the US. Over the past 20 years, my creative work has been showcased in more than 36 prestigious international venues. Over the past few academic years, I have led several major initiatives shaping my current research trajectory, including serving as Principal Investigator of the European Commission–funded ACE IT project. As Co-Investigator on the $3.1 million SSHRC Partnership Grant: The Confluence of Religious Cultures in Medieval Historiography, I lead an international team advancing digital humanities scholarship through XR and intelligent technologies. As PI of Humanizing Technologies: A Survival Toolkit Navigating the Artificial Intelligence Era in Migration Studies (funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund through Bridging Divides), I developed an ethical AI text-to-video approach.
