Many people are familiar with the laminated posters that have decorated office spaces since the 1980s: a kitsch image often accompanied by a common value written in capital letters, or an “enlightening” quote from a scientist, politician, or philosopher—all meant to motivate, inspire and improve employees' performance at work. But what if a poster encouraged us to let go, relax, rest, and do less?
During the workshops, participants will use images created from AI-generated prompts, based on the typical kitsch posters of the 1980s, and create their own slogans that upend the image’s intentions to motivate. Working alone or in groups these posters are meant to spark dialogue on what it means to work, and relationships between work, rest, and (un)productivity—as related to labour, pedagogy, slow philosophy; on how work affects our lives.
