Learners will use their grasp of shapes to create portraits of people, animals, birds, and other common forms in this dynamic workshop. The ancient art form of "Warli painting" (10th century AD) will be explored while they acquire fundamental skills through the integration of drawing and embroidery methods on the comfortable medium of paper. Crossing cultural barriers, this traditional Indian painting demonstrates the interdependence of community, environment, and humankind. Students' creativity will be unleashed, leading to creative animated figure drawings and an improvement in cognitive function by learning the drawing technique used in Warli paintings.
Stitching on paper also helps to develop skills like focus, patience, and finishing tasks. Students will get a deeper grasp of many artistic media and processes by exploring notions of community, cartography, and Indian folk art through this interdisciplinary approach. In addition, the project fosters discussions on contemporary art, including the influential work of American artist Keith Haring, and promotes inclusivity by accommodating a range of interests and abilities. This connects the past and present and fosters creativity and critical thinking skills.
