José Cortés is a transdisciplinary artist, professor and researcher completing his Ph.D. in Art Education at Concordia University. Specializing in art-based pedagogies, he works at the Innovative Social Pedagogy project, affiliated with the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance and the UNESCO-PREV Chair. He has an extensive background in higher education teaching and cultural management, specifically in public art and participative projects. Through collaborative learning and cognitive practices, his research-creation compels radical pedagogies and (IN)disciplinary frameworks concerning equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) values. His artistic practice juxtaposes ethics and aesthetics of worth and mundane in multimedia, public space and pedagogic projects. He has exhibited his work at independent spaces, galleries and museums in various countries in Latin America, North America and Europe. His current collective art engagements are The Bureau of Noncompetitive Research and BANAL.
