Dr. Barbara Crow is the Dean of Arts and Science at Queen’s University. First appointed in July 2017 and re-appointed in 2022, Dr. Crow led the development and launch of the first-ever Strategic Plan for the Faculty of Arts and Science in its 130-year history and recently announced a new Dean’s Advisory Board in collaboration with the Faculty’s Advancement Team. Prior to joining Queen's, Dr. Crow was the Associate Vice-President, Graduate and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies at York University. She has also held the positions of Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and Director of the Graduate Program in Communication and Culture and chaired the provincial Ontario Graduate Studies Deans, the Council of Ontario Deans as part of the Council of Ontario Universities and the Women and Gender Studies and Recherches Feministes Assocation. In 2023, Barbara was honoured with the Angela Hilyard Influential Leader Recognition Award from the Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada.
Dr. Crow’s research interests are in the social, cultural, political and economic implications of digital technologies; particularly technology, feminism and aging, the ways in which they intersect and specifically the various impacts of digital technology. She has edited collections on mobile technologies, US radical feminism, and Canadian Women’s Studies. She has worked several large-scale interdisciplinary grants with engineers, designers, artists and communication scholars to produce technical and cultural content for mobile experiences.
