The context of leadership in education in 2025 is set against the backdrop of a post-pandemic, fragmented, and technologically-driven world and raises several important tensions and questions. Specifically, what does leadership mean in these changing times? How is the role of women in leadership evolving, both formally and informally? And how can leadership be defined and redefined for various purposes moving forward? In this practical workshop, we will introduce the 5A Accountable Leadership Framework (A1– Acquire, A2 – Adapt, A3 – Apply, A4 – Assess, A5 – Adjust) and its application in our constantly shifting environments. Grounded within theories of growth mindset, inclusive practices, good governance, resiliency, ethical practices, and complexity/systems, this Framework is designed to support leaders in gaining clarity and focus; reinforcing structure in a way that is conducive to leadership; building shared capacity for collaboration; and making purposeful use of resources which are aligned to goals. In this session, we will explore how to cultivate a leadership culture that embraces change while prioritizing people. By the end, we will have developed actionable strategies that can be implemented, modified, and adjusted as needed.
All 3 presenters held leadership positions within the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and collaboratively worked together to develop the 5As.
