Lan Anh Hoang is Professor in Development Studies, School of Social and Political Sciences, the University of Melbourne. Her research examines global mobilities and their intricate intersections with social structures, marketforces, and state policies. She is the author of Vietnamese Migrants in Russia: Mobility in Times of Uncertainty (Amsterdam University Press, 2020), which won the Association of Mainland Southeast Asia Scholars Book Prizein 2022. Her edited volumes - Transnational Labour Migration, Remittances, and the Changing Family in Asia (2015) and Money and Moralities in Contemporary Asia (2019) - offer comprehensive analyses of how migration and mobility have reshaped social values, practices, and the fabric of societies across Asia. 

Lan’s work on migration and gender has been published in leading journals such as Gender & Society, Gender, Place & Culture, Global Networks, Population, Space and Place, Geoforum, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Mobilities, Asian Studies Review, and the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. Her current project explores the moral economy of Vietnamese undocumented migrants in Japan.
