Dr Andreas Hackl is Senior Lecturer in Anthropology of Development at the School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh, and the founder and co-director of the Digital Economy and Society Research Cluster at Edinburgh Futures Institute. His research focuses on the role of digital economies in the context of migration, forced displacement, and international development. His most recent book, Digital Exiles: Refugees in the Global Digital Economy (MIT Press), unpacks the opportunities and challenges digital livelihoods and online work pose for refugees in countries such as Lebanon, Germany, and Kenya, as well as globally. His earlier research covered various aspects of politics, economy, and society in Palestine/Israel, including a book titled The Invisible Palestinians: The Hidden Struggle for Inclusion in Jewish Tel Aviv (Indiana University Press).
