Sustainability Efforts

The Library Research Forum demonstrates its commitment to Concordia University's sustainability goals by adhering to the sustainable practices outlined by Concordia's Office of Sustainability.

The following best practices have contributed to achieving platinum-level sustainability certification for the Library Research Forum event.


The Library Research Forum promotes inclusivity and respect by implementing the following practices:

  • A Code of Conduct was established and included on the Library Research Forum event website under the “Code of Conduct” tab.
  • Participants are asked to abide by the Library Research Forum event’s code of conduct in all professional activities associated with the event and to treat each other with respect and consideration in order to create a collegial, inclusive, and professional environment.
  • The call for proposals and the event were advertised widely on a variety of platforms.
  • Participants are encouraged to optionally share their pronouns when introducing themselves and to use non-binary language when possible.
  • For in-person events, participants can optionally signal their gender identity via nametags.

The event integrates cultural awareness by:

  • The event will feature a Territorial Acknowledgement during opening remarks.

Accessibility considerations have been integrated throughout the event:

  • Accessibility considerations have been integrated into the event’s registration form on the event website, and individuals requiring accessibility-related accommodations can contact the event planning group through a centralized email inbox.
  • Event registration email communications sent to Concordia’s faculty and staff are bilingual.
  • The event website follows web accessibility guidelines.
  • The event is free of charge and is being held on a regular work day.
  • Information about washroom accessibility has been communicated to attendees via email prior to the event and will be clearly displayed during the event
  • The event schedule provides attendees with multiple breaks between sessions.
  • A post-event survey will be sent to all attendees to collect feedback.
  • At the in-person event, participants can use the sorting bins, which will be provided and monitored by a representative from the Office of Sustainability.
  • Any leftover food from the event will be donated.

The event's purchasing and sponsorship policies reflect sustainability values:

  • At least 50% of the food options offered to attendees are not meat-based. Plant-based (vegan) meals will be offered to attendees.
  • The event’s caterer strives to use local and sustainable food.

Transparency and awareness are key to the event's sustainability efforts:

  • The actions taken to contribute to the university’s sustainability efforts and to achieve platinum-level sustainability certification are outlined on the “Sustainability Efforts” tab of the event website.
  • Examples of actions taken to increase the sustainability of the event will be verbally shared with participants.
