How can art educators develop a more intentional and balanced integration of the arts in STEAM Ed projects? The Imagine Aliens workshop proposes a strategy for transdisciplinary learning by using science as a creative prompt for artistic expression and knowledge production. The Imagine Aliens workshop provides both theoretical information as well as hands-on activities. Based on her Ph.D. research, Bettina will outline some major findings from her study about the use of creative prompts, how making art can help learners playfully explore new knowledge, and how science learning can be traced in the resulting artworks. Participants will then design their own alien planets and extraterrestrial lifeforms based on actual scientific data. Participants will leave with inspiration and ideas to meaningfully integrate STEM subjects into an art curriculum.
