Gabi Mejia

Gabi is an art educator from the Dominican Republic currently developing research on preschool art education in Montreal and providing online and in-person Art Education workshops in different learning institutions such as Chavón The School for Design, Orchard house Preschools and Concordia University. 

Gabi holds an associate's degree in Graphic design and a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. In 2022, she completed her Master's in Art Education at Concordia University. In addition, she has received professional development training at the Harvard School of Education (Project Zero and Passion Driven Learning) and participated in the International Study Group in 2016 at The Loris Malaguzzi International Centre in Reggio Emilia.  

Residing in Montreal for the past four years, she has designed art-integrated lessons for three and four-year-olds allowing her to develop research on early childhood and artistic expression.

In this workshop we will explore what makes a meaningful art experience in early childhood. Together we will reflect on the value of art in preschools and how craft making and the "process over product" concept have framed art education in early childhood over the past years.By observing photos, videos and transcripts we will be able to examine the documentation of different art projects created by three and four year old children.
