Jason Archer

University of Illinois at Chicago

Jason successfully defended his dissertation, A Superior Touch: A Sociotechnical Study of Humans, Robotics Surgical Assistants, and Touch in December 2020 and will hold a PhD from the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois-Chicago in Spring 2021. His research focuses on the intersections of touch, media, technology, and society. From conceptualizing touch media and media touch to analyzing the consequences of haptic technology in and on multiple contexts of communication, Jason’s work attempts to get a grip on an increasingly touch-oriented media environment. He co-edited the Special Issue: Haptic Media in New Media & Society, along with co-authoring the editor’s introduction, Haptic media studies, and a manuscript, Making analog: A manifesto on the prospects and perils of a haptic media studies.
