Dr. Lisa Sandlos teaches in the Departments of Kinesiology, Dance, and Women's Studies at York University in Toronto, Canada. She holds a PhD in Gender, Feminist and Women's Studies, an MA in Dance and is a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) through the Laban Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS). Sandlos' doctoral research focused on sexualization in competitive dance and its effects on young dancers and public perceptions of dance.

A keen interdisciplinary collaborator, Sandlos has worked on dozens of community projects with actors, musicians, puppeteers, and visual artists. Working through organizations such as the Ontario Arts Council’s Artists in Education program, the National Ballet of Canada’s Creating Dances program, and the Toronto District School Board’s Drama/Dance Project, she has taught contemporary dance, somatics, and improvisation to all ages and levels for over three decades.

An enthusiastic presenter of her academic research and the various embodied movement/dance modalities that she practices, Sandlos has been invited to share her research and expertise at various conferences, educational and training programs and festivals in locations including at The University of El Paso, Texas (UTEP), The University of California Polytechnic, Pomona, The University of the West Indies, Bridgetown, Barbados and Etobicoke School of the Arts (ESA).In December 2019, she was invited as a master teacher along with Rennie Tang, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Cal Poly Pomona, for a week-long in a residency hosted by Theatrum Mundi in Paris, France. Sandlos continues to collaborate with Tang, researching and teaching interdisciplinary methods of movement/landscape design through their newly founded organization called, Soma-City.
