Ehsan Akbari is an artist, educator, and researcher. He recently completed his doctorate in Art Education at Concordia University. His dissertation, “Spatial and Collective Learning through Mobile Photography and Creative Cartography,” explored ways of using the mobility, networking, sensory, and mapping capabilities of smartphones to encourage high school students to attend to their everyday surroundings. Akbari’s Master’s thesis, “Soundscape Compositions for Art Classrooms,” incorporated the process of listening, recording, and editing in visual art classrooms. A central theme in both studies is the role of the senses in how we perceive and interact with our surroundings and others.
