Ryan Rockmore

PhD Student
UCLA World Arts & Cultures/Dance

Ryan Rockmore is a queer flamenco dancer-researcher, an educator, and a second-year doctoral student in World Arts and Cultures/Dance at UCLA. His creative and academic pursuits focus on the sounds and silences of bodies, disability studies, flamenco historiography, and antiracist/abolitionist praxis. He is particularly attuned to how we not only see or watch dancing bodies, but hear and listen to them. Prior to UCLA, Ryan was a Spanish teacher and a diversity, equity, and justice practitioner in New York City private high schools. He has also previously received support from the Fulbright Commission, Jerome Foundation, and Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana for research and artistic development in Europe and New York. Ryan continues to create solo experimental flamenco works and collaborate on full-length performances with his New York-based, contemporary flamenco company, Al Margen Flamenco.
