Welcome to LSAC 2021: Connect, Include, Engage, Empower: Reinventing Learning Communities

Planning our first ever virtual LSAC conference required a learning curve that aligned us solidly with our conference theme! We discovered new ways to connect with others, experimented with different modes of delivery, and gained a wider international reach than is usually possible.

As a result, we have a great conference in store for you: exciting initiatives for transitioning services online, challenging calls to action on social justice and inclusion, and innovations in best practices in service delivery.

I encourage you to explore all that LSAC 2021 has to offer:

  • Opening Keynotes, Learning Scientists Althea Need Kaminske and Carolina Kuepper Tetsel, present evidence-based learning strategies to apply in inclusive settings to benefit all learners. Tuesday Keynote George Dei will highlight the philosophical grounds for exploring learning and teaching strategies that enhance educational success for diverse learners in the twin pandemics of Covid-19 and anti-Black/Indigenous structural racisms.

  • Daily concurrent sessions provide a mix of research-to-practice webinars and interactive workshops on learning strategies, mental health and wellness, accessibility, social justice, pedagogy and peer-to-peer support.

  • The “Video” tab in the main menu enables you to access presenters’ 10-minute videos on peer-tutoring support and practice, learning strategies and other student success initiatives. You can watch these when you wish and add comments to the chat.

  • Connect with others: continue conversations during the end-of-day socials; follow up with an international colleague in the Panel lunch on Tuesday; meet the LSAC community at the AGM and regional meetings; and celebrate award winners during our closing event on Wednesday.

  • Take a break to attend a lunch-time gentle yoga or Bhangra dance session, or go on a quick virtual Mood Route walk at 4PM EST with Ryerson students!

My sincere hope is that LSAC 2021 will enhance your own learning, inspire you to consider new perspectives and nurture you through a process of connection and growth. Meanwhile, if you have any questions or need help in any way before or during the conference, please email me at lsac.nationalconference@gmail.com
