Iryna Shuvalova

Iryna Shuvalova is a PhD graduand in Slavonic Studies at the University of Cambridge, where her research centres on the songs of the war in Donbas and the communities that produce them. She is especially interested in the various grammars of othering and the strategies of identity construction emerging in this context. Her research encompasses a broad range of previously unstudied material: from the songs produced in Ukraine, to those associated with the DNR and LNR, to Russia. In addition to her academic work, she is an award-winning writer and translator, and has authored four books of poetry. She holds an MA in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College. Her current research has been generously supported through the Gates Cambridge scholarship.
