You are cordially invited to our First Annual Vinesh Saxena Family Foundation Lecture with award-winning and best-selling author Monique Gray Smith.
Monique is trained as a Psychiatric Nurse and has worked in various capacities in community and as a consultant since 1990. Her focus has been weaving history, resilience and trauma informed training for educators, social workers, librarians and early childhood teams. Monique is Cree and Scottish and is well known for her storytelling, spirit of generosity and focus on resilience. She adapted for young adults, Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book, Braiding Sweetgrass. The title of the adapted book is Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants.
Monique will be speaking on the transformative and spiritual power of narratives and interaction. The event is sponsored by the Vinesh Saxena Family Foundation, Concordia’s Faculty of Arts and Science, and the Department of Theological Studies.
